Start Taking Yourself Seriously
How do you take yourself seriously when your parents kept telling you, “What do you know?”
How do you take yourself seriously when you had a teacher at school who always had it in for you and held you up as the example of how NOT to do things?
How do you take yourself seriously when your father always told you that you were your mother’s boy?
How do you take yourself seriously when your mother told you that you were just like your father every time you did something wrong?
How do you take yourself seriously when you don’t take anyone or anything seriously?
Life is a playground, and we only feel the joy of it if we don’t take things too seriously.
And yet, for a healthy, prosperous and happy life, you need yourself – your conscious presence in your own life.
If as a child you ran from being told to „keep your nose in your books”, in the school of life you learn to put your mind to work and make decisions you can stand behind.
But how do you decide which road to take when your mind turns into a battlefield of thoughts? When you hear the critical voice of the parent reminding you that you don’t know anything? Or the teacher who was always hunting for your mistakes?
Mental rumination becomes a torment that locks you in a state where you do nothing at all. You burst out laughing at how absurd it is that you can’t make a single decision, you decide the parent in your head was right after all, and you give up.
You give up taking yourself seriously. You give up believing that you too could live the way you want.
This mental block keeps you afloat, but it never lets you grow.
In therapy I hear things like: I only get what I want if I struggle for it, or, I always have to go through a hundred obstacles before anything works out.
Self-sabotage comes from an inner conflict between transgenerational and cultural beliefs and the needs of the adult you are today. The inner adult knows that if they set their mind to something, they can get it or do it – but only if their inner parents allow it and encourage it. Only if they stick to the well-worn path of tradition. Only if they don’t bring shame on the family.
Of course, I’m talking here about the messages in the subconscious, the place where the great book of our family’s teachings is stored.
So how can you take yourself seriously and live with ease, joy and grace, awake and accountable to the reality you have built for yourself?
Start by listening to yourself.
Begin your day with yourself and sit for 10 – 15 minutes in your own quiet. Breathe consciously and ask yourself one single question:
- (your name), how are you feeling?
Pay attention to your breath and notice every sign, message, image, sound and smell that shows up in your body and in your mind.
Let the mental storm run its course, let the thoughts come flooding in…don’t resist any of it.
Then say the following affirmations:
I breathe in my life, I breathe out my blocks.
I breathe in love for myself, I breathe out my fear.
I breathe in faith in myself, I breathe out the criticism in my mind.
I see myself and I accept myself exactly as I am.
I respect my life, my work, and myself.
I treat myself with respect and I take myself seriously.
The fight with mental blocks can go on forever if you choose to keep it to yourself and never tell anyone about it. The transgenerational energetic influence is far stronger than you imagine.
Family constellations are a method of spiritual psychology that helps unlock the energy of love within the family system and release the heavy emotions held throughout it.
In the end, when you truly take yourself seriously, you become aware that those who come after you – your children, your grandchildren – receive the gift of a life lived consciously and in harmony.
What do you think…is it worth taking yourself seriously?
