Choosing Life, Truth, and Love

Choosing Life, Truth, and Love

How often do we accept what life offers us simply because we don't know another way is possible?

An empty promise. Conditional attention. A love that asks us to abandon ourselves.

Most of the time, we don't even realize we're saying "yes." We do it because we've learned that this is what love looks like, that this is how relationships are preserved, or that this is simply how life works.

So we give our time, our energy, our patience, our presence, and pieces of our own hearts—out of duty, guilt, or the fear of losing love.

But what if we paused for a moment and asked ourselves, with complete honesty: Is this love, or is it a role I learned long ago?

In life, we often receive "polystyrene apples"—beautiful, shiny, and attractive on the outside, yet unable to nourish us. Gestures that resemble love but lack genuine presence, respect, and authenticity.

And in return, we give everything we have, believing that this is how love is earned or kept.

The Balance Between Giving and Receiving

In Family Constellation work, Bert Hellinger spoke about the importance of the balance between giving and receiving, and about how love flows naturally when everyone occupies their rightful place within the family system.

Children receive life from their parents. This is the greatest gift, and it can never truly be repaid.

We are not here to pay back the life we have received, nor to carry the emotional burdens of previous generations. Instead, we can honor what was given to us and allow life to continue its natural flow by offering to our children, to those we love, and to the world what comes from a full and grateful heart.

When we give out of obligation, sacrifice becomes heavy.

When we give from abundance, love becomes alive.

The Invisible Contracts

Every family passes down beliefs and loyalties, consciously or unconsciously.

Sometimes we learn that we must sacrifice ourselves for others. Sometimes we believe we must rescue, fix, prove, or carry burdens that were never ours.

These invisible contracts are not written on paper—they are written into the emotional memory of the family.

Healing begins the moment we can see them clearly and gently choose not to pass them on to future generations.

Choosing Life

From my own spiritual perspective, I believe that our soul's deepest calling is to remain aligned with Life itself and with Love.

We are not here to perpetuate the suffering of those who came before us. We are here to transform what can be transformed and to open a gentler path for those who come after us.

In patriarchal cultures, sons have traditionally been seen as the ones who carry the family legacy because they carry the family name.

Biology, however, offers another fascinating perspective: mitochondrial DNA is passed from mothers to all of their children, while only daughters continue transmitting it to future generations.

Perhaps this isn't about who is more important.

Perhaps it is simply another reminder that life continues in many different ways, and that every human being has a unique place and purpose within it.

An Invitation to Your Heart

Perhaps today is the day you choose not to accept shiny apples that cannot nourish your soul.

Perhaps today is the day you stop giving from emptiness and begin giving only from the abundance within your own heart.

And perhaps this is one of the deepest expressions of self-love.

Take a gentle breath, close your eyes for a moment, and allow these words to settle into your heart: "I gratefully receive all that was life-giving and nourishing from my parents and my ancestors. I lovingly leave behind what no longer belongs to me. I choose to give only from the fullness of my heart, free from obligation and sacrifice. I choose Life. I choose Truth. I choose Love."
